With an unbroken ecological history, the unique region has been continuously evolving for millions of years as home to more than 960 species of flora, some of which some are so exclusive to the park that they are named after the area. Silent Valley owes the origin of its name to the relative absence of cicadas, an insect that produces a continuous sound, common to all forests. The park is also home to the towering Culinea trees. which harbour the valley’s most famous inhabitants, the lion tailed macaques.
