The cattle race is one of the many charismatic Onam celebrations enjoyed by farmers during the end of the harvest season. A special 100 meter track filled with mud and water is created. The skilled drivers balance precariously on a modified plow while the pairs of bullocks charge through the farmland at hair-raising speed.
In fact, the cattle pair has to cross the finish line in 7 seconds!

I like your post – as usual!
I have to say, though, I’m not seeing a clear winner here, especially between the cows yoked together. Well, hmm . . . I guess if I’m reading down . . . is the bottom pair ahead?
Which came first, this or potato sack racing?
Very funny Scotch! We’ll have to ask the photographer who came first. And since the races are taking place in rice paddy areas the farmers would be clearly insulted by your reference to another starch. What were you thinking?
