Gavi is 40 km from Thekkady, the western region of Periyar Tiger Reserve which is popular eco-tourism destination for jeep safari, trekking, camping, waterfalls etc.

The place is rich in flora and fauna, including more than 260 species of birds such as the snake bird, great pied horn bill, woodpecker, and kingfishers. Endangered species like the Nilgiri Tahr and Lion-tailed macaque are often sighted at the outskirts of Gavi.
