Common Bluebottle butterflies are frequently found in and around the wooded regions of the Western Ghats, especially in the Periyar Tiger Reserve. This handsome butterfly has a pale blue or greenish band running across the middle of its brown wings on the both sides.
It can be easily identified by its swift, skipping motion flight pattern that flashes its blue-green colors and when it feeds at muddy, damp patches along with other butterflies. I took this photo inside the Periyar Tiger Reserve.
