This is the statue of the Goddess Veera Bathra Kaliamman situated 8 kms away from Thekkady, on the way to Madurai in between Gudalur and Lower camp(villages of Tamilnadu). The statue is nearly 42 feet high and is unlike anything elsewhere in India.
She has 10 hands of which one hand carries a small five headed snake called Panchamukham (five faces). The rest of the 9 hands are called Navashakti (9 powers) representing emotions such as anger, sadness, happiness, astonishment, fear. Besides her are carved two five headed snakes facing North and South which are believed to protect the people in the respective directions. Minor village deities surround her as a bodyguards. The festival of this deity takes place annually at the end of April, during the month called Chittira in the Tamil calendar.
