Dragon Ball, you remember Dragon Ball right, from the 80’s ? I hope you do as I saw the exact live version of “The World Tournament” last night, only here it’s called Kalari. Apparently the japanese anime, which popularized the anime genre in France, wasn’t broadcast in India. So I couldn’t discuss the comparisons with my colleagues which was very frustrating. The rooftop of Cardamom County served as the actual ‘kalari’ which means “threshing floor” or “battlefield” in malayalam and it looked JUST like the arena from the series. Kalari is one of the oldest fighting systems we know of, the father of all martial arts, I was told. So it may have influenced the japanese creators of my beloved show. Thunder constantly crossed the skies giving the night an electric surreal atmosphere. There were duels, strikes and kicks, sword fights, greats balls of fire, and young men jumping through hoops of fire. And I was a 9 year old again.
