The Chinese Fishing Net is one of the tourist attractions in Kerala that is a living fishing method in use for the last 650 years. Locally it is known as Cheenavala. By origin it was introduced by the Chinese explorer Zheng He.
These nets are set up on bamboo or teak poles supported by teak-wood structures in a system which requires at least six men to operate. All of these six fishermen must maintain the counter-balance while lifting the net out of water.
The chinese fishing nets at sunset are an iconically soothing vision of Kerala. These photos were taken by Mr.Steve who shared his photos from his Cardamom County stay in the post Periyar Experience.
