Church festivals mark a special form of festivity among the Christians of Kerala. Called Perunal, these celebrations add verve and flavor to local communities. St. Mary’s Church in Kuravilangad is an ancient church believed to have been built over thousand years ago, which celebrates the famous kappal festival (vessel procession) every year in February.
The festival lasts for three days and on the second day the main attraction is the ceremonial procession carrying a replica of the vessel used by Prophet Jonah. It’s a privilege for the members of the church to carry the vessel during the procession .

Fantastic pictures, thanks!
