Indian Laburnum (Cassia fistula) is a medium sized deciduous tree which grows up to 10-20 meters in height. Indian laburnum is also known as “Golden Shower” tree native to Southern Asia.

The Indian Laburnum is an ornamental tree with abundant yellow flowers that attracts bees and butterflies. The flower is the state flower of Kerala as well as the national flower of Thailand. The flowers are of ritual importance in the Vishu- a Hindu festival of the Kerala.

In Ayurveda, the roots of Indian laburnum are are useful in treating skin diseases, alleviating burning sensations and curing syphilis. The whole plant is high in antioxidants and the leaves contain a chemical composition of 90% of ethanol.
