Happy Birthday, Douglas Adams

One year ago today I posted this to make sure that anyone who loves this author would be aware that there are still opportunities to celebrate his life in tangible, meaningful ways that he would have appreciated.  I encourage anyone and everyone to continue to do so because the conservation needs have grown rather than diminished.  You might also enjoy his final public appearance above, which will give you 90 minutes of intense amusement and learning.

I enjoyed especially when early on he agrees with my assessment in the post one year ago that his best work was, for better or worse, his least known.  Wishing there was a way to provoke laughter in this year’s birthday post while still knowing that we lost Douglas Adams earlier than any of us would have wished, I can only refer to a quote that fits exactly if I put myself in Tom Lehrer’s shoes and Adams in Mozart’s place:

“It is sobering to consider that when Mozart was my age he had already been dead for a year.” — Tom Lehrer

Meaning, in more cliché words, there is so much to do…I remind myself and anyone else listening on what would have been Adams’s 61st birthday that those of us who share his passionate commitment to conservation and do what we can to add to his generosity with such causes, that the clock is ticking.
