Fish in Kerala is called meen and Fish Fry is commonly known as meen varuthathu. Traditionally it is served with boiled rice and tapioca.
Although every home has its own family recipe, the main ingredients are a paste made with a mixture of red chilly powder, turmeric powder, pepper powder, ginger-garlic paste, lime juice, salt and a little water. The fish is rubbed with this mixture and then fried in coconut oil, for a traditional Kerala flavour.
