Gandhi Jayanthi honors the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi annually on October 2nd. Known as India’s unofficial “Father of the Nation”, Mahatma Gandhi was a national icon who led the struggle for India’s independence from British colonial rule.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in 1869 in the coastal town Porbandar, in what is now Gujarat. Gandhi often stated that his principles were simple; drawn from the traditional Hindu beliefs of truth and non-violence (ahimsa).
