One of the important points to keep in mind during wildlife photography is to observe the behavioral aspects of your subjects and capture it.
When you spend time with your subject and when they get used to you, they continue their normal behavior and that’s when you need to be alert and keep your eyes open to capture any of the behavior they exhibit.
In this image what I have captured is one of the most common means of communication between elephants:
Greeting ceremonies are often displayed as a lower-ranking female places the tip of her trunk into another’s mouth. This behavior allows friendly communication between various hierarchically-ranked females, and may stem from the calves’ habit of placing the trunk in its mother’s mouth for reassurance.
These are good natural history moments to capture. Not only do they make for great photos, they also give us the connection with the natural world that we all crave.
