Why You Should Eat Naked — I Mean Nākd

A few months ago I was introduced to the Nākd bars made by UK-based Natural Balance Foods, which are commonly described as being “nuts and fruits smushed together.” You can really tell this is the case from the ingredients list (see the Berry Delight above; the natural berry flavor is made up of extracts and spices). I sampled from of their wonderful range of flavors, and I think my favorite so far has been the Berry Delight, with Cocoa Orange as runner-up, but I’m also excited to try the Rhubarb & Custard some time.

Nākd bars, because of the simplicity of their ingredients, are gluten- and dairy-free, and vegan; they’re also raw, and lack additional refined or artificial sugars, syrups, or preservatives, which lets them maintain their natural flavor and texture. The bars remind me of fruit leathers except they’re chewier (because of their shape) and include the grainy tastiness from the nuts. They make a great snack, and part of the company’s goal is to provide healthier eating choices for on-the-go consumers as well as fruit-fearing children. Packaging for the bars includes the logo of UK’s largest animal rights group Animal Aid, to help raise awareness for the organization. But Nākd bars are also just fun to eat because the team at Natural Balance Foods has little jokes hidden around their packaging, and their good humor makes the healthy snack experience all the better. Below is a photo I took of the bottom of a box, but rather than give all the quips away by sharing here, I encourage you to take a close look at the bar wrappers yourself!
