Kerala has a rich mural heritage dating back to the 7th and 8th century. These early wall paintings were characterized by their elaborateness, symbolic coloration and ornamentation, and ability to display emotion. The murals were painted using natural dyes extracted  from plants.

    • Hi Helen, I’m not certain about these particular styles, but many of the more elaborate murals are in temples and palaces. The “Dutch Palace” in Mattanchery (a part of Fort Kochi) has beautiful examples.
