Constant Signs In Favor Of Vegetarianism

We are not clear on the meaning of the name given to this cow, but we are sure the story is a sign from the forces of vegetarianism. Anyway, go Freddie, go! As if you needed more reasons, we propose a quick read to get you thinking about giving up meat, from an unexpected angle:

A cow that was captured by the police after escaping a New York City slaughterhouse has been taken in by an animal sanctuary and named for the rock legend Freddie Mercury.

Videos posted on the Internet showed the brown-and-white cow trotting past shops and restaurants on Thursday afternoon.

The founder of the Skylands Animal Sanctuary & Rescue in Wantage, N.J., Mike Stura, picked up the cow on Friday morning in New York and said he named the creature after the lead singer of the band Queen.

The cow had been scheduled to be killed on Friday. Instead, it rode through rush-hour traffic in a trailer, then visited a veterinarian, before arriving at a farm.

  1. Thank goodness for this kind activist determined to make a literally, life-saving difference for this poor cow. Each time we hear about one escaping from a slaughterhouse, they are trying to send us a message that what we are doing to them is just wrong and evil. The thing about this story is that the majority of western culture will for a moment support and praise this happy ending for this animal to go live in a protected sanctuary but once this story subsides and gets lost in the journey called life, they will turn around and get back to eating meat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Why is that?!

    • Thanks for the comment Stacey. Changing consumer behavior is definitely an uphill battle. Asking people to shift straight from full on carnivore to vegetarian is a tall order, but we can all take some of Thomas Jefferson’s advice: “I have lived temperately, eating little animal food, & that, not as an aliment so much as a condiment for the vegetables, which constitute my principal diet.”
