True Indigo (Indigofera tinctoria)

True Indigo is a shrub that grows to be around 4-6 feet tall and the plant is best known for its source of the indigo dye.

The leaves contains the chemical composition of indican which is necessary to produce the blue dye. The leaves are soaked in water and fermented to obtain the dye.

India has been a rich source of the plant since Greco-Roman times.

In Ayurveda, It is used in a cure for hair-loss, premature greying of hair, nervous disorders and even in the treatment of snake bites.
