Indian Borage (Plectranthus amboinicus) is a perennial herb which grows up to the height of 30 to 60 cm. It is in the coleus family in which the entire plant is succulent and does not become woody. The plant is also known as Mexican mint and Spanish thyme due to its strong flavor and aroma.

Borage is a staple ingredient in our garden at Cardamom County and the leaves are used in our delicious Ayura soup. It can also be used as a substitute for mint in some recipes.

In Ayurveda, the leaves are an effective expectorant and are commonly used  to treat coughs. Especially in children, the juice from the leaves is used for stomachache, cough, earache, flatulence, fever and diarrhea.
