India became an Independent nation on August 15, 1947 and celebrates Independence Day on that same date annually. Flag hoisting ceremonies and cultural programmes take place in governmental and and non- governmental institutions throughout the country.India’s National flag is a horizontal tri-color of deep saffron at the top, white in the middle and dark green at the bottom with a blue wheei representing the Ashok Chakra in the centre of the white. The saffron color represents courage and sacrifice; white – truth, peace and purity; green – prosperity; and the 24 spokes of the Ashok Chakra represents the Hindu Laws of righteousness.
Jai Hind!

I leave for my study abroad adventure to India tomorrow! I wish I could have been there for independence day too!
Hi Rachelynne, the thing about India is that there is always another holiday or festival around the corner! We may have asked you this before, but where are you studying? Let us know if you’re coming down to Kerala! Cheers.
I’m studying in Pune, but we have a week long break in the middle of the semester so I may find myself near Keala potentially!
Sounds great! You might also want to contact our friends at http://www.authenticaleisure.com/. They’re located in Pune and are terrific people. Tell them we sent you!
