A Goodbye to Utility Bills?

Life off the grid? An actuality realized by just a few and romanticized by the rest. But if things go as per plan, Bratislava-based Nice Architects and their seven-year project Ecocapsule will make this possible by the end of 2015. Imagine having to pay no utility bills, being able to set up your own egg-shaped home in any corner of the planet, and being super sustainable through a life powered by the wind and the sun! Yes, let’s go get that dream!

All of 86 square feet, the micro-shelter is designed for a comfortable life for two. The home includes a folding bed, two large operable windows, a working/dining area, shower and flushable toilet, storage space, and a built-in kitchenette with running water. Equipped with a wind turbine and high-efficiency solar cells, the rounded shell is also optimized for rainwater and dew collection. Each weighs 1,500 kilograms and can fit inside a standard shipping container. Its easy portability being a key feature, the pod can be anything from an independent space research station to an emergency humanitarian relief unit.
